IMMUNOTHERAPY

The treatment of allergies primarily involves attempting to avoid any contact with the allergen. However, there are cases where this is not possible, e.g. with pollen allergies. In such cases, we carry out allergy immunotherapy, known as hyposensitisation.

This involves administering the allergen in small doses via injections. In this way, the immune system becomes accustomed to contact with the allergen and the tolerance threshold is gradually raised. The therapy lasts three years and is usually administered monthly. Alternatively, short-term hyposensitisation can be carried out immediately before the pollen season with 4–7 injections.

In addition to injection therapy, we offer pollen hyposensitisation using tablets as an alternative. This ‘sublingual immunotherapy’ is carried out daily, but at home, over a period of 3 years. All treatment methods provide protection for around 10 years. We will discuss which treatment is suitable during a personal consultation.
