Allergy
Does my child have an allergy?
Recognising allergies in children is not always straightforward. The challenge is that the symptoms of an allergy often resemble those of other conditions: a runny nose in a child is often assumed to be a common cold, red eyes a case of conjunctivitis, or a persistent cough bronchitis. If the symptoms typical of a cold do not disappear after a short time, you should take note, as these may be the first signs of an allergy.
Although there is no minimum age for carrying out an allergy test, we perform testing at our ENT centre from the age of 3. Following a detailed medical history and examination, a skin prick test and/or a blood test is carried out to identify the allergy-triggering IgE antibodies. An early diagnosis of an allergy is important in order to interpret and treat symptoms correctly – and thus also to prevent the allergy from gradually worsening.
