Dr Kühnemund

Dr Matthias Kühnemund has been a partner at the Frankfurt ENT Centre since 2011. Thanks to his 14 years of university experience, he possesses proven expertise in surgery of the internal nose and paranasal sinuses, as well as plastic surgery of the external nose. His focus lies on minimally invasive procedures and navigation-guided paranasal sinus surgery. Dr Kühnemund has published numerous scientific papers and presentations on these topics. Another key area of his surgical practice is the surgical treatment of ear conditions (tympanoplasty), the salivary glands and the soft tissues of the neck.

As the long-standing head of a sleep laboratory and holder of the additional qualification in ‘sleep medicine’, the diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related disorders represent a further area of specialisation. He is in charge of the sleep laboratory at the Kopfklinik Frankfurt, which currently comprises eight inpatient examination units. As part of specialised diagnostics, he regularly performs sleep video endoscopies. This serves to identify airway obstructions in patients with sleep apnoea and snoring. The endoscopies are carried out on an interdisciplinary basis with an anaesthetist and, for certain indications, also with a dentist. This professional exchange enhances the quality of patient care and leads to individualised solutions for patients. Dr Kühnemund regularly gives scientific lectures on sleep video endoscopy.

Dr Kühnemund is an allergist. The ENT Centre’s allergy clinic utilises state-of-the-art diagnostics, including molecular allergy testing. As part of his role as a principal investigator for clinical trials, allergy patients also receive scientific support. This ensures that the latest findings directly benefit the patient.

He has been a specialist in ear, nose and throat medicine and head and neck surgery since 2003. He holds the additional qualifications awarded by the Medical Association in ‘plastic and aesthetic surgery’, ‘sleep medicine’ and ‘allergology’. He worked as a senior registrar at the ENT University Clinic in Bonn. He completed his specialist training at the ENT University Clinic in Mainz. Prior to this, he spent a year working in general surgery. Dr Kühnemund regularly attends national and international continuing professional development events in his field.
